The Leeuwenborch Library and the Section Communication Science cordially invite you to the opening of “WaY to Anne van den Ban”.
On the occasion of the 80th birthday of Anne van den Ban on 28 February 2008 his life work has been digitalized by Wageningen University. In total more than 300 publications are now publicly accessible through Wageningen Yield (WaY), which can be found at the website of Wageningen UR Digital Library (http://library.wur.nl).
Anne van den Ban is the founder of the Department of Extension Education (in Dutch: Vakgroep Voorlichtingskunde aan de Landbouwhogeschool). This Department has now evolved into two chairgroups with a joint education and research program: chairgroup Communication and Innovation Studies and chairgroup Communication Strategies. Anne van den Ban’s life work represents a history of thinking in itself. Throughout the years, he gained a great deal of insight on how different types of messages, media and methods might influence various stages of decision-making. In addition, he developed expertise on how communicative strategies can be tailored to the needs of specific clients and target groups.
His work is well known throughout the world. Especially his book “Agricultural Extension” has been an internationally recognized landmark. This book was first published in Dutch in 1970 and was follwed up by a revised English edition in 1988. By now it has been translated in 10 languages.
