A40926 is a natural glycopeptide antibiotic with a strong inhibitory activity against Gram-positive bacteria. By deacylation of A40926 an intermediate is produced that could be used for the synthesis of novel derivatives. These derivatives are defined as second-generation glycopeptides and are specifically designed  to be better drugs for the treatment of beta-lactam resistant Staphyloccous aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis infections. In this thesis we studied and developed a lab-scale process for deacylation of A40926 using immobilized cells of Actinoplanes teichomyceticus.
