 This thesis describes the analysis of two genome-wide gene expression surveys across normal adult chicken tissues and embryonic stages/tissues in order to characterize the general expression profiles of genes in the chicken genome. The research presented in this thesis resulted in the development of genome-wide gene expression resources for the chicken research community. Furthermore, a transcriptome map was built using the gene expression data, the comparative study between species of the transcriptome maps revealed a higher order of gene expression regulation mechanism along the chromosomes in vertebrate genomes.
