The 92nd birthday event of Wageningen University on March 9 was themed 'A world in Transition'. PhD-students presented results of their research into methods that can lessen the impact on the environment; from reducing the emission of greenhouse gasses in agriculture to producing materials and energy with biological rather than fossil resources. Other speakers at the dies natalis of the university were prof. Marten Scheffer, winner of the prestigeous Spinoza Prize in 2009, and prof. Robbert Dijkgraaf, president of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences. They gave their opinion on the role of science in a rapidly changing world that is faced with various radical transitions. |
