As of April 1, 2009 the Dutch Law changed regarding the change of programme or institute and the steps you have to take in order to maintain your legal residence. A couple of examples will be presented as guidelines. If your situation is different from the ones described, please make an appointment with International Student Support.
Change of programme within Wageningen University BEFORE completing MSc programme
When you want to change your WU MSc programme (BEFORE you have completed the programme) to another WU MSc programme you need to apply for an extension of your residence permit. Along with the application you need to submit an statement that you can finish your study within the maximum study period. This statement must be supplied by the International Student Support.
The maximum number of years will NOT start over again.

Example:
Current: MSc programme Plant Science at Wageningen University,
New: MSc programme Plant Biotechnology at Wageningen University
Do: Apply for an extension of your residence permit including the statement for the maximum duration of study.
Change of WU programma AFTER completing MSc programme
After completing a WU MSc programme you are allowed to follow a second MSc programme at the same institute. In this case you can apply for an extension of your residence permit. Along with the extension application you must submit a statement that you are able to complete the study within the maximum duration of study.
The maximum number of years will start all over again.

Change of Institute after completing programme
After completing a BSc of MSc programme you are allowed to follow a second BSc of MSc programme at another institute. You need to apply for a change of purpose of your residence permit.

Example:
Current: Finishing a BSc programma at Van Hall/ Larenstein.
New: MSc programme at Wageningen University
Do: Apply for a change of purpose through the new institute (aka Wageningen University, International Student Support)
