After graduation/stopping your study your situation will change and you will have to arrange a lot of things. To help you get started, we have made a 'to do' list.
To do list:
- Give due notice to Idealis. You should cancel your room at least 1 month in advance.
Close your bank account in the Netherlands.
Inform the Municipality that you will be leaving the Netherlands.
Cancel your University Registration and if applicable request reimbursement of tuition fees. Click here for the form.
In some cases a statement of non-criminal behaviour is needed in order to apply for a job. This statement can be obtained at the Municipality.
Don't forget to legalise your degree (if applicable)
Become an Alumus of Wageningen University
Arrange legal residence in the Netherlands (if applicable)
Legal Residence in the Netherlands:
An important thing to know is that at the moment you graduate or stop your study Wageningen University is legally obliged to inform the Immigration Authorities (IND) that you have graduated/stopped your study. This will mean that the IND will cancel your residence permit for the purpose of study. The IND will inform you by regular mail (post) at the address known to them. It is therefore very important to always inform the authorities of any changes in your address.
Returning home after the expiry date of the residence permit
According to the Dutch law you are residing legally in the Netherlands until the moment your residence permit expires (dates indicated on the permit itself). After the indicated date you have 28 days to leave the Netherlands without a problem. At the moment you are planning to leave the Netherlands after the 28 days are over we strongly advise you to apply for an extension of your residence permit.
