How to arrange accommodation
To get assistance in finding accommodation for your stay in Wageningen, please consult your exchange coordinator at Wageningen University. Only he or she is authorized to apply for a room at the housing office. You will have to arrange this well in advance, at least 3 months before you plan to arrive. See the button ‘Exchange coordinators at WU' for their e-mailadresses.
The exchange coordinator from your home university needs to confirm your exchange. You can rent a room per the 1st or the16th of the month (if the study period starts the first of the month it would be wise to apply for a room for the 16th of the previous month). You will receive the address about two weeks before the actual renting date.
Housing facilities
Wageningen University has no campus with housing facilities. Most of the international students are accommodated in single study-bedrooms in one of the student apartment buildings of Idealis (Corporation Social Housing Wageningen), which is an independent company and not part of the University.
The buildings are divided in groups ("corridors") of six to eighteen rooms. In most of the student buildings, international students live together with Dutch students at a corridor, sharing common facilities as kitchen, toilet and bathroom. Rooms for international students are furnished with at least a bed with mattress, a desk, a chair and a wardrobe, a small safe, a bedcover + pillow + one sheet. The rent depends on the type of room, and varies from € 250 to € 330. Be prepared to pay € 55 for bedding and € 18 for administrative costs in the first month.
In the corridor there is a common room with TV / kitchen. The students living there often cook together, but of course you are also free in cooking on your own. You can use the common shared 'things for use in the kitchen' like plates, pans etc., so you do not have to bring any.
Note: this information is valid for rooms with shared facilities, there is a very small chance that the room you have been assigned to has private facilities (10% of the rooms in Bornsesteeg). These rooms have no kitchen equipment; the facilities mentioned above can vary per building/corridor.
In general you will find a washing machine and an internet connection in your room. You do need to arrange your own computer or a cable or 'network-card'.
Changes or cancellation
Shifting housing applications forward into a later date is possible until one month in advance of your originally intended renting date. Shifting to an earlier date is possible three months before the actual renting date. If you do not inform your exchange co-ordinator in Wageningen in time on the correct rental starting date, you will have to pay the rent from the period the room has been reserved originally, even though you have not arrived in Wageningen yet.
Take note that you will be charged for the rent of a room as from the date of reservation, even if you arrive later than scheduled. To cancel the room after or during your study, Idealis should be informed at least one calender month in advance. Cancelling is possible per the 1st or the 16th of a month.
Cancelling a room is the responsibility of the student!
