Candidates applying for a NFP PhD fellowship are required to:
- have reached an agreement with their supervisor in the Netherlands and overseas regarding a research proposal
- offer proof that the PhD will be pursued using a 'Sandwich model'
Furthermore, in order to be granted a NFP fellowship, Nuffic requires an applicant to be admitted by a Dutch University or Institute. He or she must meet all the requirements set by the Dutch University or Institute. This means that it is up to a professor of Wageningen University to:
- evaluate the preliminary research proposal
- check whether a candidate meets the Wageningen University requirements
Note that NFP PhD fellowships are only granted when the employer of the candidate guarantees to continue the candidate's salary and to hold a job for the candidate while he/she is in the Netherlands. This means that a guarantee of institutional support is already checked by the Dutch embassies or consulates.
Wageningen University administrates the fellowship. This means that Nuffic transfers the fellowship (4 yearly payments) to the concerning Department. The host institution is expected to take care of logistical and administrative issues and the payment of monthly allowances. This means that it is up to a chair group to arrange visa, make travel arrangements, organise housing and insurance and pay the monthly allowance.
Visa, insurance and housing can be arranged via the Student Service Centre (see 'Services of the SSC under 'Services' ).
