WGS: Career Assessment

Back to General Courses of WGS

Dates:  The career assessment is individually based and you can plan a date with the organisers upon registration.

Introduction

In the last stages of your PhD, it is time to broaden your professional horizon.
What could be my next career move after finishing my PhD? Do I want to stay in academia or take the step to corporate life? Which competences do I need (to develop) to succeed in my current and/or future job? How can I reach my career goals in a more effective way?

The career assessment can assist you in answering these questions. It consists of different questionnaires that measure skills, competences, strengths and weaknesses. A career coach will give personal advice, based on the results of these tests. The career assessment also provides the opportunity to start working on a (career) action plan. Depending on the results, candidates can be advised to follow certain training or workshop that will help in improving necessary skills, or attend personal coaching sessions.

For PhD candidates that have already taken the assessment at the start of their PhD, the results of this assessment will also be taken into account in the career assessment. The assessment coach will look into progress made on points of attention that were mentioned in the first assessment.

Objective:

This Career Assessment:
• Gives PhD candidates insight in their personal skills, competencies, strengths and weaknesses;
• Gives PhD candidates insight in future career possibilities based on personal skills and competences;
• Gives insight in what needs to be developed and how to do so;
• Will reflect on prior assessments;
• Allows PhD candidates to follow a more tailor-made training programme related to the areas that need attention;
• Gives PhD candidates insight in future career possibilities based on personal skills and competencies.
