Back to General Courses of WGS
Course dates: 3 June & 10 June 2010
Deadline registration: 28 May 2010
Introduction
Chit-chatting with the powers-that-be during breaks at conferences? Putting yourself at the forefront while mixing pleasure with business and mingle with peers, donors and diplomats at the umpteenth embassy cocktail party? If that is your image of networking, this course can offer you an entirely different picture.
Knowing what networking is can help you to make optimal use of it. Networks are essential for scientists. Networking helps PhD students in obtaining data, money and time, receiving valuable feedback and effectively completing their thesis. Networking is a competence - partly knowledge and skills but largely an attitude. If you are conscious of that, it will be an activity that brings unexpected opportunities and pleasure in work.
Objective
After this training you will know how to map your own existing network and where there is room for improvement or expansion. You will understand how the structure of your network and the environment of your networks influence both fun and gain. You will learn your own communication style and how you operate in networking. On the basis of that you will be able to build on that and mobilise your own network better.
