The opening of the academic year of Wageningen UR, on September 6 2010, is themed 'Nature as the basis'. A rapidly increasing world population is impacting on other life forms. But human kind depends on nature and biodiversity as a source of food, energy, water and resources. Hence, it is important to protect nature and maintain biodiversity.
Speakers at the opening ceremony of the academic year in Wageningen will be Alexander Pechtold (political party leader of D66), Kees Slingerland (managing director of the Environmental Sciences Group of Wageningen UR) and Aalt Dijkhuizen (chairman of the executive board of Wageningen UR).
