The symposium Marine Bioprocess Engineering in Noordwijkerhout of November 1998 showed that this rapidly emerging field of science is a very promising one. With the symposium Marine Biotechnology: Basics and Applications, Spain 2003, we want to demonstrate that it is also a mature and significant field of science. Central theme will be the relation between applications of marine biotechnology and the basic disciplines, i.e. screening, chemistry, genomics, biology, process engineering, and product marketing.
