Learn Chinese in 2 Hours - with Ans van Broekhuizen – de Rooij (Leiden Univerisity)

China, its people, language and culture are a mystery to most. Get to know this ‘world’ and crack open the complexities of Chinese language. Chaotic stripes and pen swirls might appear to be ‘chicken scratch through ink’ but Ans van Broekhuizen- de Rooij (lecturer in Modern Chinese language at the Faculty of Chinese Language - Leiden University) will demonstrate that behind the lines is a grammatical structure that is more accessible than you would expect at first sight.

During this two hour tour of spoken Mandarin’s core characteristics you will be equipped with a basic approach for deciphering characters. You will learn how the 4 tones should be “sung” including the basics of Mandarin articulation.
Bring a notebook and pen.
