State Collapse? -  Cracking Within or Failing Models
Martin Doornbos, Thursday

In Part II of the series Making and Breaking States Series - A Cultural Theory Studium Generale invites you to join us for an examination of state failure. Prof. Emeritus Martin Doornbos (ISS) will explore why bureaucracies crumble and states may even dissolve. In his presentation he answer questions such as; How can a state collapse? From Afghanistan to Somalia or East Timor, is state failure on the rise and what can explain this?   What external factors weaken, crack or crush the core of governance apparatuses? Anyone going on a practical period or returning home to re-enter  ministries, bureaucracies or state institutions is encouraged to come. So whether you will someday be part of policy machinery, or have to deal with it as part of your own specialisation, join Studium Generale and confront assumptions about the stability of whole entire systems generally taken for granted.
