What field realities are translated into educational programs

The assumption is that education contributes to development, through capacity building. Despite the use of case studies and internship assignments, the relevancy of the educational goals and methods for application in the field and the design of feedback loops can be further improved.

In this seminar, the contribution of education to development will be assessed:
(i) by analysing the WU educational system and the dynamics defining the relations between actors influencing decisions on education; and (ii) by assessing how these dynamics should be optimised in order to enhance the consideration of field realities in WU educational system.

General outcome
To deepen our understanding of the education for development network and create awareness on the relation and coherence between: (i) educational programmes, institutes, teaching methods etc. focusing on development issues; and (ii) actual development in the field. The main objective of the conference is to get a better understanding of WUR educational system, structures and institutes, the interaction and the way education contributes to development.

How to optimise dynamics to enhance the consideration of field realities into educational programs?

· Does the WUR educational system meet the expectations of the field of professional (development) work?

· To what extent can or do students connect learning practices/knowledge with the broader context/ stakeholders/ power relations/…

The seminar is meant to discuss the relevancy of educational goals and methods for application in the field, as well as the design of feedback loops. Its specificity is a collective assessment on the coherence between (1) concrete decisions / undertakings of stakeholders involved in the study programs and (2) the extent these inter-relate with field realities.
