Maternal and Child undernutrition: challenges and opportunities
What is the response of the Dutch Nutrition Community?
The Lancet’s series on Maternal and Child Undernutrition, released early 2008, renewed international attention to the vital impact of early nutrition on health, development and cognitive function of mothers and children.
In a half-day symposium on Wednesday October 8th, 2008, Professor Robert Black, the Series’ lead author will present the findings of the series and the global impact of undernutrition. His presentation will be followed by representatives of academia, public and private sector in the Netherlands. The objective of this meeting is to discuss the role of, and provide a call for action to the Dutch public and private sector to turn the tide and put maternal and child nutrition again on their agenda’s.
The symposium will be of interest to representatives from academia, government, NGO’s, and private sector working in the field of nutrition and public health in developing countries.
The symposium will be followed by a half day scientific workshop on the role of trace-elements in maternal and child nutrition. The workshop will be of interest to students and scientists in international nutrition.
You are cordially invited to attend the symposium and/or the scientific workshop, which will be organised jointly by the division of human nutrition of Wageningen University, the research school VLAG and Unilever’s Food and Health Research Institute. Both events will take place in the Beatrix Building of the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht.
Interested participants are asked to register themselves for both events through the online registration form. Deadline for registration is September 14, 2008.
