This year, three short Storm-van der Chijs Lectures address:
Climate Change: Gender and other social dimensions.
Three internationally renown scholars will present different perspectives.
- Dr.ir. Margreet Zwarteveen (Gender Studies/Irrigation and Water management, WUR) will present which challenging questions lead to relevant gender aspects.
- Drs. Irene Dankelman (Centre for Sustainable Resource Management, Radboud University Nijmegen, NL, vice-president Women's Environmental and Development Organization (WEDO), and chair International Advisory Board of Women in Europe for a Common Future (WECF)) discusses the most recent developments on the international agenda and connects these with some case studies on the local level.
- Dr. Sarah Ahmed (chair Gender Water Alliance, independent senior-researcher) explores from her wide international research experience which opportunities and possibilities for integration of social and in particular gender aspects she encountered in projects that face climate changes.
After the lectures, the 2008 Storm-van der Chijs Stipends will be awarded to promising female WUR-Ph.D. candidates nominated by their supervisors. Interim chair Dr. Margreet van der Burg will briefly introduce the Fund and give the traditional state-of-affairs around academic women’s careers at WUR. Then, the jury will read their report and reveal the awardees. After the congratulations, each of them will briefly present her research subject.
Around 17.30 the ceremony will be festively brought to a close with a drink. Language of the lectures and awarding ceremony will be English.
