Perennial weed species are identified as an upcoming and increasing problem in European agriculture. This is, however, not yet reflected in the current weed research agenda. Work is going on, but often the activities are modest and very scattered. To be better able to appreciate what has been established, what is going on and what still needs to be done the European Weed Research Society (EWRS), in collaboration with Wageningen University and the Nordic Association of Agricultural Scientists (NJF), is organizing a 3-day workshop on this topic. Main objectives of the meeting are:

- To identify and detail the perennial weed problem
- To update our current understanding of the biology and ecology of perennial weeds
- To make an inventory of current control options and management strategies
- To inform one another on ongoing research projects
- To discuss future research needs and prospects for collaboration

The meeting will be held from November 10 – 12, 2008 in the WICC in Wageningen.
