INVITATION TO PUBLIC SEMINAR SERIES

Communication and Space for Change
Actors, interfaces and interactions

Location: Mansholtzaal, Leeuwenborch, Hollandseweg 1, Wageningen
2006: October 5, November 9, December 7
2007: January 11, February 8, March 8, April 5, May 10, June 7

Time: 15.00 - 17.00 hours

In bringing about innovation and change, social actors tend to be interdependent. Whether they like it or not, actors (need to) interact with each other, and can be seen to be part of a network.

Bringing about innovation and change often also means somehow bringing together different types of social groupings, different cultural worlds, different governmental, scientific and social institutions, and conflicting interests.

The solving of societal problems and the capturing of opportunities therefore presuppose an altering of relationships, perceptions and interaction patterns at one or more social interfaces.. Boundaries need to be crossed and effective bridges need to be built between different networks and communities, characterised by different identities, interests, cultures and epistemic beliefs.

What are the dilemmas and barriers that we encounter here? How can we envisage communication as a factor in the creation of space for change? Where does research stand? And what can science contribute?

Wageningen University’s sub-department of Communication Science invites you to a series of seminars that brings together important contributions to this discussion. We bring together leading scholars from a range of disciplines, to focus with us on the communicative dimensions of innovation and change. The speakers all present their insights and views on this issue as they pertain to a specific societal domain.

Please visit our website http://www.cis.wur.nl/UK for further information about this series. Papers connected with sessions, abstracts and more detailed information about speakers will be made available there. On our website you will also find directions to our building, ‘de leeuwenborch’.
