For the third year in a row, Wageningen University has topped the list of 14 Dutch universties in the Keuzegids Hoger Onderwijs 2008 (Guide to Chosing Higher Education 2008), which summarises the quality ratings of university study programmes and facilities. Wageningen University earned the highest total score of 7.30 points, even surpassing its rating from the previous year of 7.27. The latest edition of the Keuzegids, which describes itself as 'honest, critical and independent', will be published on 5 November. The rating, which is based on the National Student Survey, concerns students' evaluations of 12 Wageningen study programmes. These were compared with the evaluations of programmes at other universities. During the rating process, large programmes are given more weight than small ones. Compared to other universities, students gave the highest scores to Wageningen University for the following components: optional courses (7.8), career preparation (6.8) and lecturers (7.5). The total average score for scientific education at Wageningen University was 6.98. For each surveyed aspect, the scores for all universities differed only a few tenths of percent. The lowest average score was 6.4. The highest score for a single component was 7.8, which was given to Wageningen University for the optional courses component. The other evaluated components, with the scores for Wageningen University, were: communication (7.1), study feasibility (7.3), buildings (7.2), content (7.4), teaching methods (7.1) and facilities (7.6).
