Dr. Gerard B.M. Heuvelink has been awarded by the president of the International Assocation of Mathematical Geology the Computers & Geosciences Best Paper Award 2007, for his paper “The Data Uncertainty Engine (DUE): A software tool for assessing and simulating uncertain environmental variables” (by J.D. Brown and G.B.M. Heuvelink), which appeared in volume 33, no. 2, pages 172-190.
The criteria by the committee (see www.iamg.org) were:
(a) Innovation: The paper presents a new method or novel application.
(b) Computational complexity: The paper deals with a non-trivial computational problem, and it either provides source code, pseudo-code or some other means for others to reproduce the results.
(c) Exposition: The paper is well written, clearly illustrated, and referenced comprehensively.
(d) Impact: The paper has the potential to be widely cited in the literature.
