The South African Department of Science and Technology aims pro-actively to strengthen  collaboration linkages between South African and European knowledge institutions, including Wageningen UR. One of the instruments to facilitate such collaboration is the EU-sponsored  European South African Science & Technology Advancement Programme ‘ESASTAP’ (www.esastap.org.za).

On 3 June 2009 Wageningen International and the Environmental Sciences Group  of Wageningen UR jointly organised an information meeting on the ESASTAP programme in which Dr Daan du Toit, Senior Science & Technology Representative of the Republic of South Africa to the European Union explained the ins and outs of the ESASTAP programme and the facilities it offers. Willem Wolters of the Wageningen International Helpdesk gave an overview of the current EU-FP7 programmes and the relevant support facilities available within Wageningen. Rene Klein Lankhorst (PSG/PRI) gave a presentation on the EU-SOL project, one of the first Integrated Projects under FP6 involving South African partners. The three powerpoints can be downloaded here.
