The European Commission has once again awarded the ECTS quality label to Wageningen University. In the past, the University had received this European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System label in 2005. ECTS makes it much easier for international students to follow part of their study at a university other than their home university, for example, in Wageningen.
In 2005, 15 European universities, including Wageningen, held the ECTS label. After the new award this year, that number has risen to 22.
The ECTS label may be held by establishments that observe the ECTS study points system both consistently and transparently for their entire curriculum. The label guarantees the quality of the study programme. Professionals in the world of higher education consider the label to be a prestigious recognition of the international nature of an educational establishment
ECTS is a system that is based on the study load for the individual student. It specifies the learning objectives and competencies that are to be achieved. The use of ECTS for the curriculum promotes and facilitates the mobility of students within Europe, guarantees the quality of the curriculum that is offered and prevents a delay in study for students wishing to undertake education at several establishments. ECTS is one of the two cornerstones of the European Commission’s so-called Bologna process; the other is the bachelor-master system.
