Hotel Hof van Wageningen will temporarily accommodate at least 150 students in the new academic year, of which mostly international students. At the moment, Hotel Stadsbrink is preparing its apartments for the arrival of the students in August. On behalf of Wageningen University, Tijs Breukink signed the agreement with the hotel today, Friday 9th July.
The last two years, students who did not have a room yet in Wageningen, stayed in the holiday park Hoenderloo. This was far away from Wageningen, so everyone is very happy with this new possibility.
It is not yet certain if all the students can be accommodated in Wageningen in September, because the number of students is still increasing.
The apartments at the Stadsbrink, near the centre of Wageningen, are furnished and contain small kitchens including pans and pottery. The Brink Residence has wireless internet access which can be used for free, and there will be ‘parking spaces’ for bicycles. Students can buy bedding, which they can take with them whenever they move to an Idealis room. The rooms cost € 11,- per night all in. This is a regular price for today’s market and the rent of the Idealis accommodations is about the same.
Earlier this year, temporary accommodations (251 units) at the Haarweg were put into use, and Idealis opened a new complex at the Haarweg with 15 rooms. In total, 500 more housing units than last year will be available for students. Moreover, Idealis opens a new unit in the centre of Wageningen in September, which will offer more than 30 places to live for students. The number of students is still growing, which makes extension of the housing market necessary. This is why Wageningen University started an advertisement campaign in the region together with the Housing Desk.
