Unit: Wageningen UR

The Executive Board of Wageningen UR has appointed Professor Raoul Bino (53) as Managing Director of the Agrotechnology & Food Sciences Group (AFSG) at Wageningen UR. Professor Bino succeeds Dr Peter van der Elzen with effect from 1 July. Dr Van der Elzen had taken up the post of Chairman of the Executive Board of the Zuwe Hofpoort hospital in Woerden on 1 January 2010.

Raoul Bino is no stranger to Wageningen. He was the Managing Director of the Plant Sciences Group (PSG) from 2005 to 2009. Prior to that, he worked as a researcher within various parts of the PSG and led several research groups. Bino studied Biology at the University of Amsterdam and gained his PhD in Wageningen in 1986. He joined the staff of the Technical University Delft last year as dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences.
 
Bino has extensive experience of managing market-oriented research activities and – with more than 90 peer-reviewed publications – also has a good scientific reputation. He is a member of several international scientific bodies. He is also an endowed professor in plant metabolomics at Wageningen University.
 
The Agrotechnology & Food Sciences Group at Wageningen UR consists of the department of Agrotechnology and Food Sciences at Wageningen University and the contract research institute Food & Biobased Research.
