During the congress of Global Dairy Farmers in China in 2009 the main trends and challenges were discussed with farmers and representatives from the dairy industry. Globalization, change from agricultural to rural policy and sustainability issues like global warming will influence dairy. Especially the footloose systems seem to be vulnerable for the current developments. Farmers are looking for innovations in farming systems, but also towards the chain to cope with these challenges.
