This table lists all the financial sources of the chair groups of Wageningen University. The term, ‘professors chairs’, is extended to the chair groups that are included in the chair plan of the university. These are financed directly by Wageningen University through the means received from the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality (LNV).
The professors of the personal chairs are also paid through these means but here it concerns a chair group personally bound to an excellent researcher. Thus, these are not structural chair groups.

The endowed chair groups are temporary of nature (usually for a period of five years) and concerns part time appointment of approximately 1 day per week. The professors chair groups are almost always full time. Furthermore, endowed chairs are usually financed externally by companies, consortia, foundations, and affiliated companies. The fields of study being served by the endowed chairs complement the chair groups as described in the chair plan. Furthermore, endowed chairs are judged by their scientific relevance. Wageningen’s chair groups and, at times, external scientists are involved in this process. The endowed chair groups create bridges between Wageningen’s sciences and society as well as broadening its scientific fields of study. This interaction contributes to the motto at Wageningen UR ‘For quality of life’ as it stands firmly grounded in society.

The international chair groups concern the chair groups located at institutions of international education ITC-Enschede and IHE-Delft. As a result of this collaboration, both institutions are able to educate and graduate international doctorate students.
