Every year, approximately 220 PhD students receive their degrees at Wageningen University. A PhD programme lasts four years and is coordinated and facilitated by one of seven graduate schools

The PhD programme at Wageningen University has a strongly international character; 60% of our PhD students come from universities outside the Netherlands. They come to Wageningen University due to its outstanding scientific reputation.

Many PhD students are also attracted by the way in which research is conducted in teams. Besides in-depth monodisciplinary research, a great deal of interdisciplinary research also takes place, for example where researchers from the social sciences and natural sciences work together on a project.
