94th birthday celebrated

Dies natalis 2012

Independence and scientific integrity; topics that rector Martin Kropff frequently referred to in his speech at the dies natalis last Friday. "We do not want no be an ivory tower university," he said. "We're committed to delivering academic excellence, fundamental research. But in the end we are inspired by societal issues."
Entrepreneurship, innovation and interdisciplinarity were other recurring themes. Other speakers were Martien Cohen Stuart, Professor of Physical Chemistry and Colloid Science at Wageningen University, Plant scientist Dolf Weijers and (with a pre-recorded video) Bertil Andersson, Chairman of the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. All lectures were recorded on video and can be viewed on the website of the dies natalis.
