At the annual European Federation of Animal Science (EAAP) convention, three ASG (part of Wageningen UR) researchers were awarded prizes for best scientific poster or best presentation. The EAAP is an European organisation which represents scientists, academics, professionals and producers, technicians, extension officers, government departments and farmer organisations related to animal sciences.
Corina van Middelaar was awarded the travel-award for the best presentation. Her presentation was titled: "Is feeding more maize silage to dairy cows a good strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions?". Corina is a PhD student at the Animal Production Systems chair group. Her research is an integral evaluation of mitigation strategies for greenhouse gas emission on dairy farms.
Gus Rose was awarded best poster in the genetics category by the genetics commission. His research is titled: Breeding low input sheep for uncertain production systems.
Marcin Pszczola received the award for best poster by the van EAAP organisation. Marcin’s poster was selected out of 350 poster in all categories. The poster described his research about the optimal design of reference populations for genomics selection.
Both Gus and Marcin are PhD student at the Animal Breeding and Genetics Centre.
