Unit: LEI

LEI’s training course in Interactive Strategic Management (ISM) appears to be delivering good results. Earlier this year LEI, part of Waegningen UR, held a pilot for this training with experts from Poland and Lithuania and dairy farmers from the Lithuanian region of Samogitia and the Polish region of Masovian Voivodeship.

According to its organisers, the pilot, held in February and June of this year, led to ‘interesting discussions about future strategies.’ These experiences are helping Slovenia, Poland and Lithuania prepare for the official start of the ISM training course for their dairy farmers. During this training course the dairy farmers will learn how to develop a sustainable business strategy. The three countries are currently taking benchmark measurements for the training by distributing a questionnaire among 300 dairy farmers.

Participants
Participants in the pilot include experts from the Lithuanian and Polish agricultural economics institutes, researchers from Eastern European universities, representatives from the national public information services, and members of an Eastern European breeders’ organisation.

Study
The training course is part of a study into strategies of dairy farmers in the three Eastern European countries and into the effects of interactive learning methods on strategic management and entrepreneurship. This study, led by Carolien de Lauwere, is titled 'Strategies of dairy farmers and the role of interactive learning methods on the strategic management, innovation and entrepreneurship of dairy farmers in Eastern Europe'.
